Fractions and decimals
In Numeracy this week, we have been learning about fractions and their decimal representations. We used metre sticks to divide 100cm into tenths of a metre, making a link between writing tenths as fractions as well as in words and decimals. Great number work P6!
Digestive system science experiment
In Science lessons, we have been learning about the digestive systems and the processes that food goes through every time we eat. During Golden Time, we made our own digestive system using plastic bags, tights and some mushy bananas and Weetabix! A very effective (and messy!) visualisation of what happens inside our bodies.
Parkanaur Trip
P6 visited Parkanaur to conduct studies in the River Torrent! We analysed the pollution levels of the water based on the wildlife that was present (as well as the depths and widths of the river), we drew maps of the river and we also made our own water wheels out of plastic cups! The snow didn’t stop us from our river investigations. A big thank you to everyone at Parkanaur who gave us an unforgettable trip!
Science experiment
During Golden Time this week, we used different resources to create our own protective layers for eggs and chocolate teacakes! We have been learning about the human body in science lessons, particularly how our skeletons protect our delicate internal organs. We tried to see if we could make our own "skeleton" to protect our eggs and teacakes from a metre high drop. We're pleased to report that all of our eggs and teacakes survived the drop after being wrapped in copious layers of paper, cellotape and pipe cleaners ;) Very good skeleton making P6!
Speedwell Trust Visit
Melissa from the Speedwell Trust (Parkanaur) visited us to teach us all about rivers and water sources. We learned about how the water in rivers flow, as well as identify different types of rivers and natural water sources. We cant wait to study these rivers in more detail during our Parkanaur trip next week!
Georgia O'Keeffe Rememberance Day Poppies by P6
In honour of Rememberance Day this week, P6 used oil pastels to create poppy collages. Our poppy artsyle was inspired by Georgia O'Keefe, who specialises in nature paintings and encourages us to take a moment and appreciate the nature around us. During Rememberance Day, we will make sure to pause, reflect and appreciate the world around us and the sacrifices people have made for us.

Mesolithic Huts
In World Around Us, P6 have been learning about early man (Mesolithic and Neolithic people). We looked at what types of houses early people lived in and we worked in groups to plan and construct our own Mesolithic huts! P6 really enoyed working in the garden and using natural resources to make their huts as realistic as possible (and show the same resourcefulness as our earliest ancestors!)
